It begins with the first lift,
a summer to train for a god given gift.
All the blood and sweat becoming lessened,
come kickoff, the players would be perfectly conditioned.

Not just anyone can play under the lights,
only men of the school would play on Fridays with no fright.
You’d be surprised of the pain they all go through,
all for the many dreams they wish to pursue.
Many won’t make it to play past high school ball,
the ones with talent and heart will come closest to getting the glory of it all.

It teaches life lessons no other sport can do,
those lessons stay with us, our whole life through.
Warriors that give it all they got to show the fans a good fight,
you won’t find this anywhere else, only under the Friday night lights.

The author's comments:
The Wolverines ended in a very fashionable way going to the second round of state play offs to lose by six points to a team that is in the state championship. With a final record of 10-2, the Wolverines had been highly underestimated at the beginning of the season due to the size and talent we lacked. This is what inspired me to write this poem. It sums up our entire football season with just a few sentences.
