When the Time Comes
Dark shadows hang like heavy curtains around me.
Floor boards creak on the floor below,
and whispers drift up into my waiting ear.
I know now is the time to flee,
but the broken window reveals only an unstable willow tree.
Suddenly, around me a curtain like veil appears,
silent, menacing, and billowing before me.
It is the curtain of death waiting hungrily to enclose me in its folds
but I am not one to adhere to rules,
even those ones just known and unspoken.
I have been foretold
that death will take everyone in its veil covered in polished onyx jewels.
You have been warned but when the time comes you, like me, will be broken
when the curtain of death opens up its folds to you.
Alone in the black, I am the sadness of a lone wolf in an empty forest.
I will forever prowl around hopelessly looking for the exit from this place.
