To Jeff
Our leisurely kisses at Lakeside 370
with warm streams of glorious spring-time afternoon light
cascading on your coal-black hair
and down onto my arms linked
behind your neck
felt just like
heaven
without promises to keep
or hard feelings.
We swayed along
we were trees with shallow roots
as the persistent breeze pushed through
heavy with
hesitation
and the buildup of words
unspoken.
I stood on tip toes to match your height
and you held me close
until daylight withered thin
but encouraged
distance
between
And we had to leave
That pleasant harmony
of you and me
but no us
and follow where life would lead
Separate
yet
Somehowattached
Until next time
