"Be crazy, life's too short not to!"

I believe in love.

You never talked to me.
You would pass me in the halls,
but our eyes never made contact,
until one day.

I believe in love.

You bumped into me.
It was a small incident,
but our eyes met.
I didn’t think much of it,
but you must have.

I believe in love.

You tried talking to me.
Innocent topics at first,
like school work and the weather.
I learned your name,
Michael.

I believe in love.

You would talk to me every day.
We became close friends,
and I started to trust you.
I even told you my secrets.

I believe in love.

You approached me one day.
You seemed nervous and unsure,
but you asked the question anyway.
You wanted to go on a date.
I said yes.

I believe in love.

You took me to the park.
Only you would take me there,
to my favorite place,
but I usually go during the day.
This was at night.

I believe in love.

We walked along the sidewalk.
You had a picnic set out for me,
full of sweets and candies.
We tried guessing the chocolates’ flavors.
We always got them wrong.

I believe in love.

We held hands as you pulled me along.
You told me you had something to show me,
but I already knew where we were going.
To the cherry blossom tree.
It was in bloom.

I believe in love.

We gazed into each other’s eyes.
I never realized how blue yours were,
or how mesmerizing they can be.
That was our first kiss.
The first of many.

I believe in love.

We went on several more dates.
Somewhere along the way,
I fell in love with you.
I don’t know when or where,
but I fell for you.
I fell hard.

I believe in love.

I thought you fell for me too.
Maybe you did at some point,
but I’ll never know.
You broke my heart.
You shattered it.

I used to believe in love.

I was walking down the halls.
I had got out of class early,
just so I could fix my appearance for you.
That’s when I saw you with her.
It killed me.

I used to believe in love.

I looked into your eyes as your lips separated.
They were full of surprise,
as if you thought I’d never find out.
My eyes filled with tears as I ran away.
That was the last time our eyes met.
The very last.

I used to believe in love.

I still pass you in the hallway.
I don’t look at you,
and you don’t look at me.
We’re simply back where we started.
Strangers.

An "I Believe" themed poem we did for class. It made some of my classmates cry, so I figured I should put in on Teen Ink. :P
