water
i have on an astronaut suit
but not even I can see it
i’m closed up
shrunk into my me-box
i suck my stomach in
a flock of gulls is migrating between
us
there is fright in their wings
the salt and pepper people hug each other
but they have no faces
and someone is pouring a jug half-
full with water, it goes in loud
and ghost
in cold light
and we keep drink-
ing till we’re all water and skin
like lettuce
there’s a pool on the table
it’s eating your sleeve
I try to say it but the saying’s all clung to the roof
of my mouth and now
there’s an ocean on the table
