We Live Half At Night
It was nights like these that I loved so much.
One’s where I was unsure who was competing for my attention more,
The moon or the stars.
During midsummer when the nights finally cool off the sweat
That the sun accumulated, sitting outside was otherworldly
Nothing changed.
The crickets still chirped and the grass was still soft
The fireflies still buzzed- if only I could catch them
And most importantly, the world still spun exactly how it did
But there’s something about the night, when the sun dips down to rest
And the birds aren’t chirping
When everyone’s asleep, preparing for the next day’s adventure
There’s a quiet that settles in allowing me to bathe in the moment,
Just a moment of subtlety;
The sky is bright with the stars that twinkle,
Listening to what their mother Moon has to say…
