The River
I awoke to the smell of summer in the air, even though it was only the first of June.
The sun was pleasantly bright as it shined through my bedroom window. I dressed with haste and headed down toward the river
bed, where clear, cool, water flowed and cascaded over river rocks and stones.
The river was plentiful and shimmering in the sun's
reflective rays, making the water tempting to drink and refresh my quenching mouth.
The river goes on for miles,
where exactly does it lead?
Where does it end?
Where does it begin?
The current collects tree branches, logs of enormous size,
and scale covered fish and fallen men who attempt to catch them.
How cruel the river can be!
How loving she is and what
life she gives and takes as
she pleases.
