Battle Scars
Seeping holes in my chest
Scabbed over
So many times
Wounds dissolved down
To small cuts
Bruises
Bumps
They don't hurt anymore
Not much anymore
Barely any searing pain
Or battle scars
Slowly dissolving into chocolate skin
But certain thing
Songs
Memories
Gifts
Laughs
Smiles
They pick at the old wounds
And a dull ache
An everlasting pang
Echoes through my hollow chest
Memories seeping through
Falling
Rolling
Loving
Dying
I know it's gone
The happy times I still think about
It's accepted
I've moved on
Past the hurt
But those single-handed picks
On battle scars
And old wounds
Make me cry inside
For what could have been
And what went wrong
It leaves behind
A heart so far from home
