Siren
It wakes me up from my place
between un and conscious.
My instinct is fear.
What happened?
Where is it?
Who is it for?
Is it for me?
Is it for someone I know?
And, oh, dear God
don’t you dare
let it be someone I love.
But, then I realize two things.
I am selfish,
for it has to be someone,
someone who is loved
by someone else.
And who am I to tell God
what he dares or
dares not to do?
But it is forgotten
more easily than it should
as I drift back into my place
between un and conscious.
It was just a siren.
