Rude Awakening
You shook me
From my
Deep
Deep
Slumber
As if I cared
The least bit
To leave my comforting surroundings
As if there was
Anything left in me
To give to you, to life
As if I still saw
The good
And hope
And light
That you always said existed
When you knew
(Even better than I did)
That I didn't,
Couldn't,
Wouldn't see
But then I heard you
Whispering my name
Ever so slightly
Through the warm summer breeze
And I felt something
Flutter in my
Long-forgotten soul
That I thought I had left behind
So long ago
Your rude awakening
Was uncalled for
And yet
Here I am-
Still awake.
So thank you
