Sleeping In
I used to wake up to the melody of birds.
Getting up for school was never a problem,
that’s I normally got up anyway.
I’d always drive my parents insane
when they couldn’t find me in my room.
Then, at the end of the day, when the sun sank down,
I did too.
Now on the weekends I sleep till noon.
I disappear downstairs with my homework.
And waking up for school is a drag,
And I always crawl back into bed.
My parents aren’t shocked or worried when I’m
not in my room.
Now, I don’t fall asleep with the sun.
Most nights I don’t even fall asleep till midnight.
Now I like to sleep in.
Then I didn’t.
I guess sleeping in is part of growing up.
