Untitled
I am not pretty
unless I am statuesque and
my legs are long,
tanned, and smooth.
I am not pretty
unless I wear heels every day,
even if they cause me pain.
I am not pretty
unless I have flawless,
clear skin
sheathed in a mask
of makeup.
I am not pretty
unless my eyes are green
or blue;
unless they are vivid
and pop in the light.
I am not pretty
unless my hair is shiny
and processed
and styled to perfection.
I am not pretty
unless my stomach is flat
and I can see my ribs.
I am not pretty
unless I am under 100 pounds
and wear size 0 jeans.
I am not pretty
unless I wear designer labels
and flaunt their products.
I am not pretty
unless I am complimented.
I am not pretty
until they say I am.
