Deli Boy
The boy with the alcohol
in his blood
sat with words dripping
from his mouth,
creating a flood of
sentences
that he probably didn’t
mean to say.
He sleeps all day to
push his angst away,
but even as he lay there
a smile is spread
across his face.
He paces in his place
that isn’t truly his
because the misery
he feels
always keeps him walking.
We were talking for hours
until dawn was reaching the skies
as the sound of your voice
made sense in my eyes.
All I want to do is
keep that smile alive
because your drunken lullabies
have me stuck and hypnotized.
Keep me crazy, and you
stay insane
and let us hold each other’s hands
through the lonesome night
and the pressing, pushing pain.
