The Wall
I built this wall
When I was a little girl.
It keeps me away
From the hurt of the world.
I stand behind it
And watch as feelings falter
I only feel numb
As it pushes them farther.
This wall was once paper
And he almost broke it down.
But I patched up the holes
And he finally turned around.
With nothing in my way
I lean against this wall
And watch as life passes by
Not feeling anything at all.
I am in control, I think
But the wall shakes with laughter behind me.
It may be that I sink
When it keeps out the truth I cannot see.
