My Soft-Spoken Memories
I drew a blank
A line down the middle of the sheet
Your eyes were closed,
Softly deep in sleep
I remember the way your lips felt
When I gently traced your smile
I remember the way you smelled
It changed once I think
I remember the late night calls
Where I used my mom's cell phone
For hours upon hours
I remember the tears I shed
Lying my cheek on your shoulder
It was a great view of your neck
I remember the way you defended me
When people taunted with their lies
I remember how it felt to be safe
All wrapped up, warm in your arms
I remember the hours
We spent together, insurmountable
By far and all
No one will ever mean as much to me
As you did before I fall
But when memories and letters
All that I have left,
Old words whispered in my dreams;
Why is it surprising
That all I can do is cry
And wait for life to fade me away?
You were all I had
And I was your love song
I remember the frogs
I could never get you to kiss
I remember the tree
I could never get you to hug
But I remember me
And how you never wanted to let go
And how I was an anchor for you
In your life so long ago
I remember Ky...
I remember that time
When things were simple
When things were new
But mistakes we made
Keep us apart
But you will always be
Kept close inside my heart
