Spring Rains
The moon was a paper kite in the sky
That we held to earth by a thread of stars
Strung into a constellation that blew your breath away.
Dangling our feet in a gossamer lake
That reflected strangers up at us, and the clouds
Puffing and scattering like ripe dandelions in the sky.
There we lay in the wilted grass
Flinging stories into the heavens
While April rained blue around us
Memories of pine needles pierce my heart
And soft rains now whisper sadness against my windowpane,
You used to say the spring rain woke up cherry blossoms
But all it awoke in me was the long ago dream;
When we laughed and the moon beamed down upon us
