A Breaking Effort
My skin will not break
To the demon within
My mouth will not hollow
To the width of the words
Born on my tongue
My fingers will not grasp you
They will never hold your threads
Or unravel your mind to my story
Until we lie a tangled ball on the floor
Yes, my walls will shutter from time to time,
Its cracks severing the mortar’s embrace
But stillness will certainly reign again
Throughout my impregnable city
And its darkness comes in sheets
So catch me fast; flick the switch
Let me be your Jericho
And I swear I would.
I swear I would.
