A Childhood Memory
I always preferred tag over dress up.
Dolls are a toy I hate.
Girls ignored me.
Guys were my playmates.
If I had a choice between Power Rangers or Barbies?
I'd always be the blue ranger.
Mud pies or princesses?
I knew the perfect dirt to water ratio.
I never had pink skirts,
blues prettier anyway.
I hug out with guys,
is that a crime?
Girls thought it was weird.
They became jealous,
because oh my they liked my best friend's smile.
They called me derogatory names,
because I had the guys attention.
Guys became good looking overnight.
When did cooties go away?
Guys liked the attention,
I wasn't going to love,
guys I'd played freeze tag with.
I was mad that these girls,
we're taken my best friends away.
I liked them because they were easy to read,
while girls were difficult and manipulative.
The girls only noticed their hair or the brands they wore,
guys with knobby knees or buck teeth,
were tosses aside like last seasons dresses.
To the guys I was old news,
To the girls I never was,
to the outcasts,
I was now their friends.
