I wait
I waited for your return, but you never showed. When I finally slept, you wrapped me in your arms and apologized and said, “Everything’s going to be okay. Just keep your arms around me and I won’t let your body touch, won’t let it touch the ground. Just keep your eyes on me and let me be your gravity.” But I told you that you were lying, that you were just quoting a song, then you pulled me in, kissed my nose and whispered, “Because it’s true, and I love you. I wouldn’t lie to you; I don’t want to hurt you anymore.” And that’s when I closed my eyes harder so I wouldn’t cry and when I opened them, you were gone. Now, every time I close my eyes, I sit on the rooftop where we had shared our first kiss, in the rain the rain, in the snow, the thunder and lightning, I wait for your return……
