"A human being is endowed with free will. He can use this to choose between good and evil. If he can only perform good or only perform evil, then he is a clockwork orange - meaning that he has the appearance of an organism lovely with colour and juice but is in fact only a clockwork toy to be wound up by God or the Devil." - Anthony Burgess

I saw into your mind
The other day
Wrenching tearing blackness
Dripping into burning acid
Like mutant, writhing worms
Decaying with age
Devouring the blank sheet
That was your mind

I saw into your mind
The other day
Soft, hollow sadness
Dizzy and blue
Soft fingers of orange
And shudders of yellow
Seeping through the blank canvas
That was your mind

I saw into your mind
The other day
Silent begging and shredded skin
Like the dirt on the bottom
Of a lost soul's feet

I saw into your mind
The chaos that was purely you
I wish I could have done more
I wish I could have saved you
But the twining lines
Of fate and breath
Only reaches so far
Before coming to rest
At the last child's feet

I saw into your mind
The other day
The window to the soul
The eyes I coursed through
To find this pathetic lost cause

Were my own.

How people lack the empathy to connect with others, let alone themselves. If you can't save yourself, how can you be expected to save others?
