Like a bird she dons her black and
white feathers
Some rumpled, some smooth
Precisely placed
Out of the austere background
There appears a lap dog
Nestled innocently in its master's
cold embrace
What sins has this glassy-eyed
onlooker witnessed?
What dark sins have been perpetrated
behind this composed façade?
Perhaps there is no canine
But was only a figment of the artist's
imagination
Added for effect, for subtle drama
A large triangle hat
What lies within its dark depths?
Secrets tucked away
In her oversized sleeve, her suffocating corset
A knowing smile
Its intentions: malicious?
No.
She is the victim
An elegant guise
The pain is bottled up for later
To take in large doses with plenty of tears
Far away from the ignorant eyes
That fail to see through her delusive
semblance
Beyond this though
She lives only to forget

I really liked the layers of the poem, and the title was superb. The idea of the real story behind a painting was very interesting, and I enjoyed it.
