My Mistake

Inconsiderate,
That’s what I was.
I didn’t care,
I didn’t think it through.
But now I know.
It was entirely stupid,
This I hate.
It was a mistake,
This I know.
Why didn’t I stop myself?
Did I know it would hurt him?
I see him,
Every day, in fact.
I see his hurt eyes
And I can’t open my mouth.
If I do,
I can only say
Sorry.
I’m sorry.
I’m really sorry.
It was
My mistake.
