Step Dad
I stay up most nights waiting for him.
Years before he used to disturb my sleep.
I know nothing of sleep anymore.
I stare at the ceiling waiting.
The door begins to open.
I used the start shaking,
Today, like yesterday, I'm still as calm waters.
To no suprise he's drunk and loud.
Mom hears him but she won't move.
I used to scream but learnt no one was listening.
I used to fight back til the bruises got questioned.
I lay there and let him proceed.
Don't worry about me , it's daily routine.
