My Shadow and I
My shadow stares at me across the room
Wearing its devious all-knowing grin
It witnessed everything, and now he looms,
The part of me that knows, my second skin.
When we first met that night, we were fragile
We knew no sin, we were hale, hearty, true
When things went wrong, I disappeared a while
Hiding from all but him, because he knew
But now he leaves, no longer taunting me
Imprinted with knowledge I can't escape
I think I'm free, the light will cleanse, it seems
But a smile like that only knows my fate
My shadow, my accomplice, knowns my sin
I know my shadow will be back again.
