I Won't Forget
Your eyes had the effect
Of a tranquilizer,
They held me once
and I thought they saw
Intentions, Ambitions,
I thought they held me so
Closely I could’ve been engulfed
and drowned—
I thought I could rest in your
Eyes,
Your Lion eyes.
I could sleep in your eyes,
I hoped I could wake to your
Eyes,
Risen before the dawn and
Create the sunrise,
Tattoo the horizon—
You had power over me,
You and your warm-weather
Eyes
That slowly filled with disdain,
Tar-blackened, charred
They burned in me
Buried me, six feet
Left me alone in a corner aching
For their attention,
Until I couldn’t give a s*** anymore
What color they were.
