The Girl with the Red Balloon
The girl with the red balloon,
Watched me as I cried.
Tilted her head, wiped
Tears from her bright eyes.
I don’t know her,
She doesn’t know me.
The reason I cry is a secret,
To her undiscovered.
My mind fills with amazement,
At unquestioned empathy.
The red balloon against
Gray skies. Forgetting
My tears, disregarding my fears,
I watched her as she cried.
I don’t know her,
She doesn’t know me,
The reason she cries,
I do not know. For her I feel
A sense of love,
Unquestioned empathy.
Catching my eye,
A smile brightens her face.
Her tears disappear,
Her watered eyes erased.
So focussed was I,
On my feelings for her.
When her tears turned to smiles,
I couldn’t help but follow suit.
Caught in a moment,
Of unquestioned empathy,
Our comradeship prevailed.
Without any words,
Or gestures of any kind.
The girl with the red balloon,
Had changed my tears into smiles.
