Barriers
I got myself a permit, to knock down your walls
On the grounds that this relationship wasn’t meeting industry standards
I came in my hardhat and safety vest
Wielding sledgehammers of concern
A wrecking ball of sympathy
Bulldozers of trust
Some shears and hammers of understanding
And I topped it off with some dynamite secrets
Which I hoped would finish the job,
Clear your imposing fortress from the skyline
But your barricade held firm
The bricks and mortars encased in
Righteous anger, privacy and independence
So all my gear shattered, falling in pieces on the sidewalk
You built your fortifications stronger than ever
Installed security cameras to prevent my code violations
Filed a restraining order so I couldn’t come near
Your blockade got higher, stones cemented
with defensiveness and insecurity
and all my demolition was all for waste
