Symbol
Take the leper’s hand
And pull him to you
Crush him in your loving embrace
Take the child, alone and hungry
And kiss her head
Bless her with your love
Look upon the anorexic with love
And remind her she is beautiful
Do not let her go
Hold the cutter’s hand
And kiss every slashing stroke
Heal him with your heart
Show your scars to the masked
And let them see your secret strength
Stand when others sit
Do not hide from the storms
And walk calm into the dark night
Throw your love
Like a comforting blanket
On the lost
Wind your soul about their hands
And never let them fall
Wash their guilt with your hope
Burn away the pain with your faith
Look at their failings with forgiving eyes
Be a symbol of Joy to the despairing
Be a symbol of life to the dying
Be a symbol of redemption to the fallen
Be a symbol of forgiveness to the broken
Be that single candle
In the dark
