Elevator
I run a marathon all day long
Racing up and down, back and forth
When I open my mouth I immediately yawn
Food walks in
Chewing, my teeth ache terribly, on their words
As if someone is pressing hard against my teeth
They ache and I cry but worse is their tone, silence
When I cry, tiny little beeps come out of me
Sounding through my insides as an echo-relentlessly repeating
Just as I go to swallow, I yawn again
When I open my mouth, they walk out unaware of my role
And I race down again, down, down
To where I am halfway through my marathon
My eyes close as my brain shuts down
I am broken
But the doctor comes to fix me
And the marathon continues until 5:00 P.M.
When the workers go home, and I can sleep
