The Sea
The waves roll in,
Crashing me against the jagged rocks.
I welcome the pain,
Rejoicing from the constant agony of numbing despair.
The tide keeps me harbored for now,
Until it drags me back into its unforgiving darkness.
I try to breath in air,
But my lungs are filled with salt,
Burning every breath.
I’m choking on the water the sea bestows upon me.
I grasp for safety of land
But my hands are sliced from the sharp rocks.
I’m pushed back with blood covering
My wrists.
The sea claims me once more.
I am forever a prisoner.
I try to fight to sea,
Thrashing and screaming,
Grabbing for any harbor.
But my fingers slip and my cries go unheard.
The sea chains me once more,
Swallowing me whole and carrying my away.
I let the take me now.
It’s claim on my soul is forever my debt.
I am home now.
