The Darkness of Light
It’s the feeling of having someone who we know
has genuine feelings toward us.
the feeling of being able to fall asleep
in someone else’s arms,
waking up, and them still being there.
Someone who,
when we need someone the most
they will come to our rescue
and won’t leave even if we tell them to.
Just knowing that we have one person on our side
when the rest of the world is turned against us.
When we’re upset
and only want to cry,
needing someone desperately to talk to,
that that person is there
ready to show us the light ahead
when we can’t see the stars above us.
Each wave in the ocean crashes,
but we only know it
from its sound.
Grains of sand between our toes,
and the water trickling over our feet
relaxing to the sounds and smell of the beach.
The pier above us,
casting their fishing lines.
We can close our eyes
because while were in the darkness
our other senses are able to take over.
It’s the fairytale life we all wish we could have,
only there isn’t that someone who we can fall asleep with.
There’s a darkness in a relationship,
the part that we wish we could reel up and toss away.
A feeling of dread,
of picturing what we want, and trying to reach it,
but it’s the one person we want to talk to most
who is the one that is making us cry.
Standing on top of the pier,
wondering to jump or not to jump,
if the ocean can take away the feelings that we feel.
Every sense in our body numb except for the pain
so we close our eyes and wonder
if this was the life we were meant to have.
