We Got So Close
My efforts were strong, but maybe it was wrong
to assume you would meet me halfway.
After all, the eyes of the day
are slowly shutting
as my mind makes its way
to where my dreams are budding
on the vast branches of trees that you hold,
and you and my heart that you stole
are lying so plainly in front of me
as a half-torn whole.
Yet, you are only a figment
of my vision-stained pigments
and time is slowly eroding
away at your once-clear image…
The opportunity to renew
finally came through
so I sprinted to where I
could be close to you.
But while you sauntered, I ran
and you slowly realized you can’t
let yourself run towards transience;
your broken legs
simply will not
move fast enough
