Responsible
When asked the question,
“why’d you do it?”
I have nothing at all to say.
My lips go tight and
I close my eyes
and feel my speech decay.
The moisture leaves my mouth
and my throat becomes too tense.
The only excuse is lack of thought
and breaking through suspense.
The words, “I love you”
are too far gone,
and unfortunately untrue.
It seemed to be different
to me, and it meant
something more to you.
When asked if I’m ready,
I cringe,
because I can’t handle the thought.
Looking at the smiling face
of an infant,
I know that I’m not.
Where did my logic go,
out the window you came in?
When did my innocence end
and the responsibility
begin?
