I Am Me
I Am Me
I am from a mixed mother from a small country town in Indiana.
Known in high school as “that one black girl.
I am from a black father from the Deep South,
A small black town on the border between Georgia and Florida.
A football playing know-it-all who claims he had a 12th grade reading level in the second grade.
I am from a one hundred year old apartment building in Old Louisville.
Where the floor creaks incessantly and sounds of fire engines happen almost every hour.
But I moved to Suburbia.
A nice somewhat big house with a yard that couldn’t be any smaller.
I am from the love of fashion, a girl whose closet is bursting at the seams.
I am from a nana that bakes cookies every week,
Reads Agatha Christie murder mysteries until she falls asleep.
I am from a papa who will garden until the world ends.
Acres and acres of flowers and gardens.
I am from a place that can’t be duplicated.
I am from a place I call me.
