My Battle Scars
I know they fade.
The pain doesn't last forever.
But I can still hear your voice in my head.
"Suck it up!"
"I'm gonna give you a real reason to cry!"
I feel your hand across my face.
The white hot pain of blood vessels popping in my eye.
I can feel the tears well up.
Coursing through me like small rivers of hope.
What did I do to deserve this?
What did I say?
Even if you don't believe it,
I'm listening.
I can hear you.
No, I'll never be perfect.
I'm sorry.
I have to go.
I don't want to be here anymore.
Maybe the Earth will swallow me up.
That's what you're hoping anyway.
Bye Dad.
I'm glad you got one more swing,
You're not going to get in another.
