One Summer Night
The flame of the sunset lifted from the mountain tops
Dusk came into the valley.
A small girl sat on a rock near a stream
She had just recently ran away from home
There was no other option
She lost her parents in a car accident
Just the night before
There was no was she was going into foster care
She set out on foot to find her Aunt
She figured she would stay the night under a big oak until morning
She grabbed some twigs
Started a fire
Being so young made this process difficult
Lying near the fire
She started to doze off
One week later
Search and rescue found her
Burnt to death
Holding her mother and father’s wedding rings.
