A Vision in the Night
He strode across
The old grass field
Longing to be in her arms
He yearned with such force
Just to caress her face
And trace her features with love
He so desperately wanted
To run away with her
To be married at last
And ride together into the sunset
But he knew this would never
Truly be real
For their love was forbidden
A modern day Romeo and Juliet
But he didn't care
He raced onward still
Until he was face to face
With the woman who had
Unimaginable beauty
But she was ice cold
Instead of radiating heat
He slowly touched her neck
And let out a heart-broken shriek
The woman he loved
Was now no more
And his heart filled
With such amazing sorrow
That not even Aphrodite herself
Could heal the heart-broken soul
He wept so violently
His broken soul still passionate
How could she be
Laughing one moment
And then the next...
"No."
He said
Not here
Not now
Don't dare to think about her
The one he loved most ardently
Who was now just rotting flesh
"I need to leave now."
He simply thought in return
There's nothing more to be done
With that
He sluggishly strolled back
Across the old grass field
With the glowing moon
As his guide
And he left
The memory of her
Where it's nothing more than
A vision in the night
