Warming Hearts
During the winter months,
my heart soars south with the geese.
Going somewhere warm,
so it can’t freeze up
in the harsh cold weather of Wisconsin.
Wishing my body could fly along with it.
Smelling the warmth coming on in the air,
soaking up the vitamin D through my skin.
Go south of the equator,
to a different culture from my own.
Catch a glimpse of the world from another side.
Maybe then I could understand the meaning
of a hard, but grateful life.
Maybe to just relax
and let my heart rest a spell.
Then I could clearly open up my heart,
get rid of my fears and pain of life.
Let in the sunshine,
and the glorious rain.
Let it all soak up my soul,
like rain water trickling back up to the clouds.
Floating swiftly through a sunset,
with shades of baby blues,
sherbert pinks and oranges,
bed time purples,
and navy blues.
Say good night to the moon,
and good morning to the sun.
Feel the earth rotate.
Watch the big, white, fluffy clouds
morph into shapes of a memory I own.
Watch it float away,
to another world
And let it go.
Feeling the warmth inside.
Keeping my heart beating,
pumping blood throughout my body.
Every fall I watch my heart go with the geese,
to a warmer place.
Every spring I welcome it back,
with new sense of life and warmth.
Good bye to the past.
Hello to the world before me.
