Here I Am
Here I am, born with petals white as snow
Created to love You, I long to fully love.
So when I see the sun,
My leaves reach out to touch You.
I absorb You, Your fire is my breath.
In the night You are my moon, so calm.
Finally I may rest, in You.
So when I see Your face, Your
Shadows tuck me in sweet hopes
As you whisper You love me.
Morning again, You are with me.
But a flower knitted beside me in the earth
Has lost a petal when she did not wake.
I have turned scarlet red,
And tiny thorns grow larger in my stem.
Soldiers trample over me, snatching me,
Ripping me out of this holy soil.
I was the reddest rose of all with
The strongest, sharpest thorns.
They shed me naked, thorns remain.
The dirt road they dragged me on led to
A man I did not recognize,
But He looked as badly torn as me.
The soldiers twisted me, bending my
Bare body into a crown.
They placed me on the man’s head and
Thrashed me, piercing my thorns through His skull.
With every thorn, with each small sin,
I saw my red petals pour out of Him,
And I cried- I realized He is my Father.
I wanted to pull away, in fear.
I’m the sinner, but He still holds me.
The blood streaming down His face
Colors me again, white as snow.
And He speaks to me,
Behold, I make all things new.
