Pictures of The Past
I'm forgetting who I am and who you want me to be
Just like a pretty picture, I can't squint my eyes to see.
Another crystal in the sand, a million more under my feet.
Smaller than adequate eyes can see, there's a photograph.
It is unknown of it's contents, shape, or structure.
All that is known of is it's incomplete.
A book that remains half-written, day by day the pages fill.
Just another screenplay, still being viewed.
A puzzle with only the edges put together,
A glass of milk with it's contents spilled.
Chipped pieces here and there, cold faces and glares.
Forgotten memories left in the past,
And newly made miseries still forming a cast.
Sealing the the past that cannot be erased
Preparing for the future and all that it takes.
It's incredible how quickly time can elapse
Sooner or later today with be the past.
Just take another step on your way,
Open new doors to fresh glories on their way.
Take a deep breath, refill your empty glass.
Collect all the puzzle pieces back into the box.
Capture the wings of time,
Sift your fingers through the sand a few times more.
Just pick up that pencil and keep writing the book life, just a few pages more.
And find a microscope to view that evanescent photograph.
It's just another picture from the past.
