For What I Love
The wind whips at my hair, willing my headband
To sink to my neck
My fingers yell out
But I continue to squeeze them around my stick
By this time my legs are screaming
But I ignore their pleas
And focus on my mind
Which is shouting to win
No obstacle can stop me
Whether it be the muddy grass
Or the opponent standing in my way
I am determined to prove how dedicated to this I am
The girl jabs at my feet, almost throwing me off balance,
But I right myself
Knowing no one can stop me
The goalie approaches
So tall and intimidating
But so beatable,
Once you knew how to take her
I crush the ball, knowing it would slam into the cage before it even left my stick
My teammates gather together celebrating
But more so to express how much we love this
And will do anything for it
We are field hockey players
We play for the love of the game
and knowing
that when we come off that field
we will come off with a victory
