In Life we were meant to be together
We were one not two
Just one

What seen to be happiness turns to sadness
Now the person that stands before me
Is a stranger as I am to her

I thought he meant it was hard for him to understand why she didn't love him back.

And I agree with consumedbygrace, very well written to capture the emotion so realistically in so few lines.
