Drink to the Snow
It started beneath the blankets and bedding
when our limbs entangled
like branches that were shedding
leaves that were no longer green.
Your face truly makes the beauty of this scene,
with the trees careening over the snowy sheets
just like the ones we lay on.
My ear is to your chest and I hear the beats
of your heart; rapidly pulsing
as I tear you apart.
The night is coming so I will
drink my guilt away,
swallowing what burns my throat
that is already aflame
from the words I have spoken
that make me feel shame.
But the truth grows
as the hidden sun
crawls across the cloud-covered sky
that starts to cry
frozen tears of white.
I cannot fight
the way you make me feel
and with your touch all around me
I am reminded it is real.
As your lips meet mine
in the falling snow
I am so glad to know
someone as great as you.
