From You I Fled
Like the people from calamity
From you I fled
Sadness fell in my heart like a storm from the heavens
Because you are not with me
I am alone in the lonliness of this hour of abandoning
You walk towards me
Your arms are open, empty
Begging me to fill them
But I cannot
We are not the same as we were before
I don’t want to fill your empty arms
They are already filled with your sadness and pain
I don’t want to kiss your lips
They are stained with your broken promises, sad laments, and angry shouts
I don’t want to hold your heavy body
Full of years of darkness and neglect
I don’t want to know your broken heart
It knows your loss, your anguish, your anger, your confusion
Your shattered heart
And I don’t want it
Any of it
Not anymore
I don’t want to be accustomed to your pain like you are
This was happening to me
Your suffering was settling into my soul like ivy
It was my pain
My heart was heavy and anguished like yours
To escape our sadness
From you I fled
