Don't You Dare Jinx Me
What is so scary about the truth?
The fear is instilled at our youth.
No. Gasp. Don’t say that. Don’t think it.
Knock on wood. Cross those fingers. Don’t admit.
What’s so bad about saying probabilities
Of life and death and missed opportunities?
But no. Cover your mouth. Bite your tongue.
You’d be frowned upon if you weren’t so young.
In saying these curses you persist,
Those same items will be first on God’s list.
Speak the truth, say a fear,
They’ll say “jinx” and cover their ears.
Yes, it is true. We could all die tomorrow.
But people would rather not live in sorrow.
What is instilled in us at birth?
We want to live out what could be our last minutes on Earth.
