Throw It Away
my mom's wedding ring doesn't fit on my finger
I don't mean her current one
she never lets me try that one on
but the old one
the one she gave me
when she didn't want to look at it
anymore
but she couldn't throw it away, either
it used to be too loose
but now
I need to use the liquid soap in the bathroom
to get it off
and I know that if I want to get anywhere
I need to type up my old writing
but I'm scared to re-open my book
from back then
I don't want to look at it
don't want to relive the creeping memories
but I can't throw it away, either
and I have no daughter which to pass on my words
and my old words don't fit anymore
don't fit anyone
they just make me cry
