The Night Sky
Through the telescope,
To the sky,
The moon shines bright tonight.
Now to Venus,
The Morning Star.
I reach,
But do not grasp,
That wonderful work of art.
So Mercury I see next,
Craters for all to see,
One… two… three…
Impossible to count,
But fascinating to see.
Now for something else…
Oh look!!
A shooting star,
Up so high
Telling me,
“Make a wish! Go on!”
My eyes shut tight
Fingers cross,
I wish upon a star.
A secret I may not tell.
To the last planet now in the sky,
I look to Saturn.
Its rings smile back at me,
As if it were alive
Seeing, wishing, and experiencing
I’m enjoying the to-good-to-be-true night
Seeing the moon, seeing the planets, and seeing a shooting star.
I’m am astronomer through the telescope,
As smart as Galileo
Eyes popping out with amazement
The science, slowly stirring in my head
Sense coming back
On Earth I still lay
Still through the telescope,
To the sky,
The moon shines bright tonight.
