When the kid next to me
motioned, pulling the trigger
to a gun aimed at his head,
I should have listened …

When the kid next to me
said, “No one will miss me.”
I should have listened …

When the kid next to me
looked at me with hope in his eyes,
and I just turned away,
letting that hope die,
I should have paid attention …
but I didn’t …
and I wish I had …
because now it’s too late …
