What The Fake Smile Knows
The fake smile knows how to act
It knows how to pretend; everything’s okay.
Happiness it envies greatly, pure with jealousy,
Something it could never obtain.
It holds the secrets locked inside these pierced lips
And keeps the tears held in these eyes.
It’s all about disguise.
Look at its aplomb and assurance
It remembers how to cry; Let everything out and just let go.
But it’s held up by promises
Even if the lies kept inside are everything it never wanted
And all she never hoped for, or her every single wish.
The fake smile is just pretend and it will never let her forget.
It always remembers the emptiness that fills its appearance
And splatters on its insides
It’s the words these lips cannot speak
The fake smile never forgets,
That life’s just one game you can’t cheat.
It knows every memory, the good and the bad.
To the host it remains an enemy, a blockade of emotion
Never letting her show what’s behind these sparkling eyes,
And broadly curved grin.
Appearances are really just covering the past,
The fake smile makes it easy to hide the truth
She can’t forget, it won’t let her hide from her fears.
And the fake smile knows,
The truth sealed underneath her lips.
