Shooting Star
It was a perfect evening outside.
Stars were sprayed against
The dark night sky
Like raindrops on a window
Some bigger
Some brighter
The moon was a blazing orange crescent
Resting on the mountains
I was captivated by the sight
I couldn’t believe my eyes
The chilly beginning of fall breeze
Blew right through me straight
To my bones and my teeth chattered
To get away from the screaming and the nonsense
Was to get away from the hurt
Was to get away from the pain
I sat all wrapped up safely in a blanket
Staring at the beauty
Listening to the pure silence in the air
And inhaling the crisp, delicate smell of
Summer turning to autumn
It is completely still for a moment then
Suddenly, a flash of white, sparkling light
To contrast with the black background
Streaks across the sky
